My Top Tips for Beauty as We Head Into Spring

Hey everyone! I hope y’all survived “Spring” Forward and that one-hour lack of sleep thing…
I am back from my trip to Florida, and I brought the sun with me. The weather was marvelous the weekend I returned to Seattle!
I must say that the warm sun on my skin felt oh so good!

Today I get to get my hair highlighted! I haven’t had it done in almost a year! Excited to get some more “brightness” into it reminds me of a few beauty tips that I wanted to share. Here are my top five things to consider as our season changes…
1. Drybrushing
Dry brushing is an excellent way to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and help even out any texture.
It is also great for circulation and lymphatic drainage.
As the name suggests, dry brushing involves swiping a soft brush in gentle strokes over your body to physically exfoliate your skin and help it feel soft and smooth.
*When applying the brush to your skin, start at the neck and work your way down to the feet, making sure not to work the brush towards your heart (for circulation purposes). You will want to move the fluid outwards, moving the fluid under the skin towards the center of your body.
*Ideally, you want to begin your dry brushing prior to showering to remove dead skin cells then washing them away while you bathe. Moisturize your skin afterward.
2. Hydrate
We all have heard that drinking water is good for us.
Are you drinking enough? Probably not. Studies have shown that we need to divide our weight in half and drink that number of ounces a day. Water helps us maintain health and the integrity of every cell in our body!
It effects our mood, energy level and even our weight.
3. New Makeup Routine
On the coattails of a serious year for Barbie, the 2024 spin on makeup is a trend called “coquette” makeup. Think rosy cheeks, glossy bitten lips, doll-like lashes and lined eyes, and soft, feathery brows. VERY feminine.
I don’t know about you, but I feel better after I apply a coat of lipstick and mascara. Perhaps upping our makeup routine a little ( or a lot) will transform us into the new season.

4. Up your SPF
Here comes the sun (hooray!), which means it’s time to up that SPF.
Did you know that UVA and UVB filters can affect your skin through glass and clouds, too?
I always apply sunscreen before my morning run regardless of the weather, knowing damage can happen year-round, but as the weather gets nicer, I apply more and more frequently… I am getting older and I won’t go down without a fight!
5. Moisturize your HAIR
Moisturizer isn’t just about your skin. Your hair needs it also.
Especially as the sun comes out and stays out longer.
Confused about the different “types” of conditioner? There are two: Moisture and Protein. I suggest alternating between the two every other time you bathe.
Moisture helps your hair to retain its length and shine. Protein on the other hand helps with elasticity and to strengthen your hair.
(as always, reach out if you need recommendations)
