Major (and some minor) changes are coming for Dawn Marie Artistry
Hi Y’all!
I feel as if I just sat down to write an update for Dawn Marie Artistry!
Oh… WAIT! I DID just write a newsletter last week.
I appreciate your patience and reading each blog/newsletter you receive in your inbox; I appreciate your time, which I know is valuable.
This past week, some important news that will have some impact on services and scheduling in the very near future have transpired.
I was invited to a VIP event by Brazilian Blowout and the local supply store selling this product. YEAH ME!
I was super excited and honored to be put on their guest list!
Brazilian Blowout now has a FORMALDEHYDE-FREE formula!
I was somewhat excited for an “alternative” option to the original formula and another chemical-free option to the Cezzane treatments I am currently offering!
AND THEN…. (DUN DUN DUUUUUN!)…
I was informed as of January 1st, 2024 (!)… Yes, 2 weeks AGO… The original formula from Brazilian Blowout is no longer available for purchase in Washington state (and California and Maryland). All products that are already bought must be used up by January 1st of 2025… meaning in less than a year, we, as hairstylists, can no longer provide this service legally!
So, to say the least, my wheels were spinning after this VIP convention. These questions I asked myself may answer some of the same thoughts you may have.
1. Q.: How much ORIGINAL Brazilian Blowout product do I currently have to use (since I won’t be able to purchase more)
A: I have 4+ large liters left that will likely get me to December. I will continue to accommodate all Brazilian Blowout appointments until I run out…
2. Q: Does the Formaldehyde Free Brazilian Blowout Solution compare to the REGULAR solution?
A: This is something I have only witnessed myself. It looked great on stage, and the hairstylists that have tested over 2000 models seem to reassure that it IS, in fact, a tremendous comparable.
3. Q: Is there a difference in pricing and timing?
A: Yes! The new product/s for the service have quite a few more steps and solutions. With a “processing” time now of anywhere between 30,45,60 minutes, depending on hair and desired results, the new service will take longer. Since more products are involved and time, the new formaldehyde-free service will be priced slightly higher.
4. Q: How will booking for the new service be handled?
A: Online booking will probably not be available for booking these treatments. They will take longer because of an additional “processing” time of 30-60 minutes. I more than likely will be scheduling a haircut client to come in while the solution is being processed. (Much like when color services are done). Booking for this service can be done via text or phone call to me.
5. Q: Is there any harm to the hair if the solution stays on longer?
A: No, if the hair is not rinsed out by chance, there is no drawn back. But it does need to be rinsed out to go on to the next step.
6. Q: When will the new service be available at Dawn Marie Artistry?
A: I plan on adding the service to my menu as early as March 1st, but if anyone is interested in it earlier, please reach out, and I will accommodate as best as I can.
So there you have the news about the new Washington State Toxic Cosmetic Law.
I knew this would happen evenly just wasnt expecting it to happen so quickly.
I let y’all know the second I knew.. which was just on Monday.
Looking toward the future also has me reminiscing about the past.
Oh, how much I have missed doing Brides and their lovely entourages on the biggest day of their lives. I miss the art of a perfectly constructed hairstyle that makes each individual feel their best.
This being said, I have decided to get back to it! My passion and very first “love.” Special Occasion Hair will again be added to my website and service menus. Unfortunately, my “selfishness” in doing bridal hair makes me not want to do makeup at this time. GIVE ME ALL THE HAIR!
This will include ON-SITE and in-salon servicing. Please keep me in mind if you or someone you know needs fabulous hair for an upcoming event. I would take pride and honor and of course much love in doing hair for any event.
I am also excited to market and show off my haircutting skills! Fun Fact about me: I ONLY did haircuts in a high-end salon for over 16 years. WIth advanced training in Paris, Rome, New York, Vegas, etc, from some of the best, I REALLY love customizing style for each person’s vibe, hair texture, face shape and lifestyle! If you haven’t sat in my chair for a cut, please do so! If you know of anyone needing a cut and/or change, refer them. MUCH appreciated!
I know I have hinted about our vast remodel project. Thank you to all who have asked how it is going. It was moving very slowly due to the city of Seattle’s painstaking permit process ( all those that have had to deal with Seattle permitting… can I get an AMEN!!). I believe the permit is currently in the final stages, and construction (fingers crossed) will begin in late winter/spring!
All this information swirling around my brain made me also wonder if and when we could take a vacation!
So, I booked one for us as quickly as possible!
We will take a short getaway the last week of February—only six weeks from now! When I return, my great friend Sunny and I will head to a retreat on Bainbridge Island.
