Happy April 2025
Welcome to April!
Longer days and warmer temperatures are creeping into daily routines.
I don't know about you, but I have a spring in my step, and my smiles get bigger this time of year.
Onward and upward with the seasons.
I have been up to a few things lately. In late February, I took a last-minute vacation to the Bahamas, which was a much-needed blast of Vitamin D and quality time combing beaches with my guy.
We had the opportunity to stay at The Atlantis Hotel, which was incredible.
Over 140 acres of swimming pools and water park, multiple water slides that are not for the faint of heart... my favorite: The Leap Of Faith, nearly vertical that drops from the top of the "Mayan Temple" into a clear tunnel running straight through a shark filled lagoon, craziness!
Atlantis is one of the largest open-air marine habitats in the world, featuring sharks, rays, sea turtles, and sawfish (that are highly endangered).
All the fish and mammals at the resort have been rehabbed or rescued and are now thriving due to the resort's resources.
A couple of days after I returned, Sunny (my bff) and I ventured to Islandwood on Bainbridge Island. Islandwood is a well-known learning center hosting school programs and summer camps. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center hosted a weekend event for metastatic cancer patients and their "caregiver"/loved one.
It was a great getaway for me (and her). We walked in the woods, ate gourmet meals, participated in group talks, and even got massages. It was a memory-making weekend for sure! Thank you Sunny
Recently, I have had some tragic news regarding a few clients. Major health issues and even the passing of a couple of my "loved ones".
I had been conversing with a great friend who is also in the industry. She confirmed that "this is one of the hardest of our professions."
I want all my clients to know that you are more than a "head of hair" to me. You are also a heart, too—a heart I connect with. I connect with some more than others, but I cherish every conversation. I am honored when you open your world to me ( I also honor privacy).
I won't go on and on about this topic, but please know I care... deeply for your well-being and hope you know I am always here regardless if it has to do with hair..
Sewing
Yes, I am still sewing a ton.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all who have donated to my obsession! I love all the fabric, notions, and advice.
I recently taught my son how to sew, and now we are neck and neck over who is more obsessed with it. Even though we have different fashion goals/styles, it's fantastic to spend time with him exploring the world of fashion and creativity.
My Easter dress made from recycled fabrics and a whole lotta love!
This brings me to the news that I am elated about...
I am going back to school!
I start at the Seattle Fashion Institute next Tuesday. It proves that you are never too old to pursue a dream.
Yes, I still will be slingin' and slayin' hair, so please make your appointments asap. I am getting booked a few weeks in advance
Fashion is a Passion of mine; I believe I was born with it in my DNA, and my son also inherited it.
Brock and I making patterns… Fantastic!
I wanted to leave you with a few things I have observed while reading and researching Paris Fashion Week that seems to be "in style" currently.
Of course style is whatever makes you feel confident but perhaps a couple of these things you can see yourself wearing and feeling your best.
1. Anything and Everything Leopard
Leopard print is making a comeback ( I wasn't aware it ever went away...) Track pants, strappy sandals, and even sports coats are seen with this fierce print.
2. The Lingerie Look
I LOVE this look! I feel so feminine wearing a slip dress or cami... even a lace-trimmed dress. Pair it with a contrasting bomber jacket or boots... woooo! I am ready!
3. Suede
The streets of Paris are lined with fashionistas wearing suede blazers, suede mini skits, or even kitten heels!
4. Denim but not your average color or style.
Imagine light brown wide-leg denim pants or perhaps a pink denim vest thrown over a white Oxford cuffed shirt. Hmmmm.. yummy to me!
4. Head-to-toe navy blue
Personally, I love the thought of this "trend." Several people recently pointed out to me that I am usually seen wearing or sewing something blue!
5. The Pillbox Hat... is back.
The first thing I ever bought on my first trip to Paris was a velvet pillbox hat, so you will surely see me bringing it out of storage.
I will forever be grateful for all of you who read these newsletters, allowing me to blab on and on about things that are close to my heart. I hope I can see and connect with each of you very soon!
Here is a quote that popped up recently when I was feeling sad about the passing of a client ... hope you all find some creative outlet that helps you with all the "feels"
Much Love! Xx Dawn Marie
