The Rising cost of owning and operating a small business

And how my creative mind is combating it….

Wow!  I can't believe Christmas was over four months ago!

Happy Easter from THE ROEDER’S

Hello Spring... we have made it!

Of course, we all have heard the news (even if you are like me and try to avoid it)

Tariffs, threat of recession, increased insurance, etc.  No matter what side of the political landscape you are on, I am sure you have felt some financial impact.

Hair salons/small businesses have really felt the "squeeze".  Most, if not all, of our products and supplies have skyrocketed.

Between this and Washington State putting the kibosh on future Brazilian Blowouts (original solution), I have been just a "tad" stressed ( sarcasm intended).

I have seen several salons post their grievances on social media, and I am right there with them. Most have no choice but to raise their prices, try to keep their doors open, or throw in the towel and shut their doors for good.

One of my recent creative creations!

I have thought long and hard about this, even keeping me up at night... I know we are all in the same boat with the rising costs of everyday life, including all of you.

I have decided to keep my prices as they are (for now), but to help offset the costs of running the salon, I have taken some time to make things to sell.

I recently announced I was going back to school for Fashion Design, and I have and love it. I am enjoying learning advanced techniques such as the art of draping and illustration... diving headfirst into a new community of creatives.

*Some more exciting news: I received a scholarship to The Parsons School of Fashion. I will be going to school online AND continuing to study in the classroom at The Seattle Fashion Design School

This all being said,  I am "tying" this love for sewing in with the love of my small business, "Dawn Marie Artistry." I have handcrafted hair ties, scrunchies, hair clips, headbands, and bucket hats (with hidden zippers so you don't need to carry around your wallet!)

It would delight my heart if you could take a look at my supply while you are in the salon and/or message me for a custom piece...

The prices are incredibly affordable:

Scrunchies: $5

Headbands: $10

Hairclips: $10

Bucket Hats with hidden zipper pocket: $30

Bucket Hat: $25

Tote bags: $15

Handmade hair clips or can be clothing accessories … complemented with vintage buttons

Handsewn bucket hats! With or without hidden zippers!

Just a few of many different headbands that will pair nicely with any outfit or simply to wear around the house!

I am so grateful to still be in business, doing what I love, and also going to school to propel me into the next chapter of my life.

** Added bonus: Brock is also "on fire" with his clothing designs. His illustrations are amazing, and are getting ready to be sent to manufacturing soon!  We get together on Thursdays for mother/son time, and THIS is one of the top highlights of my week!

Feel free to text me if interested in any custom designs at 206.755.2118

And of course, please book your next appointments

Thanks for your support!

Xx Dawn Marie
