Prom HAIR... Picking a style!

Since prom is literally right around the corner... meaning so is graduation and SUM. SUM. SUMMER! I thought I would share with you some advice and picking the ultimate hairstyle! And the why's behind finding that perfect hairstyle for the big memory making day. If you have shorter hair and have always dreamed of that perfect prom hairstyle with long curls, or an elaborate undo, ... time is ticking to GROW that glorious hair BUT  adding hair extensions are no longer taboo! Easy to find, if you just remember to buy REAL hair (none of that synthetic crap that will NOT curl and mat up the moment your Prince Charming arrives ).

Choosing YOUR perfect prom hair: where to start

With so much information  out there, choosing the best prom hair to go with your dress AND most of all... personal style has never been easier. To start , do your homework! Scour the internet, magazines and blogs for inspiration! Pinterest has many gorgeous hair photos to set your mind ablaze to inspire BUT remember these key rules when dreaming of THE style that is perfect for YOU!

What is YOUR hair type ?

Be real! Looking at photos of Kim Kardashian when you have finer, thinner hair will only result in disappointment and frustration for all those involved.. Is your hair straight as a board and will NOT hold curl, no matter how dry it is outside or amount of product weighing it down? It's probably best to steer clear of Big Bouncy Curls.  Do you have curls for days naturally?  It could be best to enhance your naturally gorgeous  curls instead of going with a ironed out style for the evening, unless you have it professional straightened and/or keratin/ Brazilian Blowout before the big dance. If you  do have shorter hair and have always dreamed of that perfect prom hairstyle with long curls, or an elaborate undo, ... time is ticking to GROW that glorious hair BUT  adding hair extensions are no longer taboo! Easy to find, if you just remember to buy REAL hair (none of that synthetic crap that will NOT curl and mat up the moment your Prince Charming arrives ) Asking yourself key question about what your hair will do and don't and if the style will hold are all  very important for a successful night of great looking hair. If you are unsure and have made up your mind on your dream hair, consult with a professional.. ( I'm always here and happy to help!)

Have you thought about your makeup, dress and other points of interest?

Your hair shouldn't compete with all 'ya got going on.  Either it is the focal point or it enhances the others.  Is your dress dramatic? Will your makeup be over the top glam?  Make sure everything works together not again each other .

Will you be dancing the night away?

I know ... I know.. it is called a "dance"! But how much will you be dancing.  I know for my prom, the best part for me was doing my hair, makeup and getting dressed.  May sound odd but I DID get my cosmetology license at 16!!  For some of you, you can't wait to get your groove on, showing off your moves on that lite up dance floor.  So consider the hair! Is it secured enough with pins?  Will you become a sweaty mess..  Can your hair HANDLE all you have for the night??

What is the theme?

It seems every prom has one: Roaring 20's, Red Carpet, Night under The Stars etc.  This may help inspire you to get creative!  Are you are excited about the theme??Google photos with these tag lines and see what comes up... you may just shock and amaze yourself and friends!

Think ahead... As in years from now

Just because it looks epic now doesn't mean you will be showing your kids your "awesome" hair style in the future.  Consider "trends"... Will  you be just as excited as you were the day of your prom ...later on in life.  I know, we all are going thru fads and trends on a daily basis making it hard to consider this.. I mean I went to Prom in the 80's. (enough said!). I also remember it was VERY popular to get corn rows ending in curls one year. ( YIKES ) Im happy to say that I dodged the bullet on this!  But also... you guys, it may be FUN to look back and see how you evolved with your hair but just consider... MOST OF ALL...Have a fun time, relish every moment... You will never get this night back, make tons of happy memories... no matter what your hair looks like! XoXo
